Attendance
The Department for Education's School Attendance guide (2020) states:
Central to raising standards in education and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is an assumption so widely understood that it is insufficiently stated – pupils need to attend school regularly to benefit from their education. Missing out on lessons leaves children vulnerable to falling behind. Children with poor attendance tend to achieve less in both primary and secondary school.
Attendance and punctuality are important to us at St. Mary's C of E Primary Academy. Attendance in school is monitored by our Deputy Head teacher (Jessica Crisp). Both individual and class attendance is monitored and rewarded, and we reward children for improved attendance and for attendance above 96%.
Reporting Absence
If your child is going to be absent from school please use the Arbor app to send us an in-app message or email stating your child's name, class and reason for absence.
Alternatively, you can call us on 0113 2717204 and choose option 1 to leave a message, again stating your child's name, class and reason for absence.
You should do either of these options BEFORE 9:30am each day that they are going to be absent.
Class teachers will take the register before at 9am and the start of the afternoon every day. School will try to make contact with parents/carers of children who are absent if we have not had a message about why they are absent.
Holidays in term time will not be authorised and any planned absences must be approved by the Head teacher Ms Elizabeth McDonagh.
If your child is not well, they should stay at home until they are well enough to return to school. If your child is not well in the morning but has improved by lunchtime they can be brought to school before 1:15pm in time for afternoon registration.
If a child becomes unwell whilst at school, we will contact parents/carers to collect them as soon as possible. Please make sure that you have given us at least two emergency contact numbers.
Please see the link below if you are unsure whether or not your child should attend school.
