Home Learning

At St Mary's C of E Primary Academy we have looked closely at what research tells us about the effectiveness of home learning . With this is mind we have prioritised home learning that we feel will have the most impact in helping your child succeed in their learning.

Types of Home Learning

Reading:

Reading (all children) We recommend up to 20 minutes a day.  This could include:

  • children reading with an adult and recording what they have read in their reading record book
  • reading common exception words
  • practising phonemes and graphemes
  • discussing vocabulary and answering question together
  • completing reading comprehension tasks

Multiplication Facts – children from year 2 upwards  have multiplication tables to practise at home.

Spellings - children from year 2 upwards have a weekly set of spellings to practise at home. These are linked to their learning in school.

Other Home Learning  - children may be set a specific piece of home learning linked to either a class based topic or whole school special focus (e.g. World Book Day or Inter-Faith Week).
